Bored? Mess around with Photoshop!
The other day, I found myself with 20 minutes of free time and nothing to do before my shift.
Eventually, I decided to create a fictional 17 West iPhone app.
You’ll notice it in the bottom left hand corner below:
It got me thinking about what it would be like if it actually existed. I can’t even fathom what goes into creating an iPhone App but it’s a nifty thought. (Yes… I say things like nifty.)
If it were up to me, the 17 West APP would include:
- Trailers & Clips
- Updates from the site
- Screenplays
- Stills from our movies
- Posters
- Relevant Athletic Nerd Posts
- Previews
- Much, much more
Perhaps one day when we are bigger and have some more films under our belt it will be a welcome addition to the network.
Until then, it’s only a dream or at the very least, a Photoshop image.

Ever tried Dashcode? You can create a javascript-based web-app fairly easily which can replace http://www.17west.ca when you visit it from an iPhone. It’s not quite as full-featured or fast as a true Objective-C iPhone app, but the basic interface/navigation (including basic animation) functions of the iPhone are possible, Really, any of the features you listed above could be implemented with it. Best of all you can bypass the app store and people can simply add a bookmark to their home screen (with custom 17W icon) making it function almost identically to a regular iPhone app.
I seem to recall that your blog used to use a Dashcode app. But it was a stock one that came with whatever blogging software you were using. Anyway, I’m not sure how much javascript you know. But if you do, a 17 West iPhone app may be closer than you think.
My brain hurts. That’s all I’m saying haha.
I learned a bit of Java in university but I seriously think severe pain behind my eyes would result from attempting something like that.
Having said that, it’d be pretty sweet to get something up and running. Maybe when we get some more films under our belt I’ll come knocking on your door with some cash and a pizza or something haha.
