2011 HALL OF FAME: Movie

September 16th, 2011 | Posted by jasonmckinnon in Hall of Fame | Movies - (0 Comments)

2011 HALL OF FAME: Movie | Movie Blog

Today is the final day for the inaugural Hall of Fame induction week.  I’ve saved the most prestigious category for last: Movies.

This category will no doubt be the toughest from year to year but I’ve decided that the first official movie to be inducted into The Hall will…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

2011 HALL OF FAME: Movie | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I selected this film because of how much it meant to me growing up.  When I was growing up, I couldn’t get enough Ninja Turtles and the idea of a live action movie blew my mind.  I used to create my own weapons and play ‘turtles’ with my friends.  I was always Raphael.

At the end of the day, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles played a huge role in my childhood and will always have a special place in my heart.  I couldn’t think of a better film to honor as it is also among the most mentioned movies on this blog.  Check out a few of them below.

Wouldn’t It Be Awesome If Ninja Turtles 2 Featured Bebop & Rocksteady?

2011 HALL OF FAME: Artist

September 15th, 2011 | Posted by jasonmckinnon in Hall of Fame | Movies - (0 Comments)

2011 HALL OF FAME: Artist | Will Smith

The Artist category can be anyone from a screenwriter to an editor and everyone in between.  For the first inductee, I decided to go with an Actor…

Will Smith

2011 HALL OF FAME: Artist | Will Smith

Since the days of Fresh Prince, Will Smith has been my favorite actor by far.  The sitcom alone shaped my sense of humor growing up.  I imitated him all the time.  To this day, that show makes me laugh but Mr. Smith is being inducted into The Hall because of the amazing movies he’s made over the years.  He’s been in comedies, action movies, romantic comedies, science fiction tales, superhero films, independent films, dramas and more.  He’s been nominated for Oscars as a boxer and saved the world from alien invasions a bunch of times.  He’s been in high speed chases full of explosions and guns and he’s been at the heart of family dramas.

And so today, I thank Will Smith for all the hours of entertainment he’s provided me with the first ever Artist Induction in my Hall of Fame.

2011 HALL OF FAME: Screenplay | Screenwriting Blog | The Matrix

In the category of SCREENPLAY, the first inductee into The Athletic Nerd Hall of Fame is…

THE MATRIX

by The Wachowski Brothers

2011 HALL OF FAME: Screenplay The Matrix

The screenplay for The Matrix was one of the first I really studied.  I knew the film inside and out but I wanted to know more.  I wanted to know how something so unique and original was written.  The script did not disappoint.  I’d go into it further here but I’ve written an entire post dedicated to that very thing already.

Click here to read: What ‘The Matrix’ Screenplay Taught Me.

Even if you aren’t a fan of the film, the script is a phenomenal read.  If you thought those visuals were thought up on set think again.  The Wachowski brother’s writing is crystal clear and absolutely fascinating.

I loved that screenplay.  I don’t do this often but click this link to Amazon and buy it!  It’s worth it.

Welcome to The Hall!

2011 HALL OF FAME: Movie Website | Joblo Movie Site

The very first inductee into the brand new Athletic Nerd Hall of Fame will be in the category of movie websites.

JOBLO

2011 HALL OF FAME: Movie Website | Joblo Movie Site

When I first became obsessed with checking movie websites every day, I stumbled across Joblo.com and I’ve been a daily visitor ever since.  The site is constantly being updated with new headlines from the film industry in addition to awesome regular columns, podcasts, videos, reviews, interviews and more.

Not only that, Joblo is a part of a much larger network of movies sites that includes: Arrow In The Head, Digital Dorm & Movie Fan Central, Joblo’s film focused social network.

What I love about the website is the handy left column which features dozens of recent stories.  So many blogs these days rely on the ‘next page’ and it’s nice to see a website go a different way.  It’s a very simple way to scan the news items you’re interested in.  (It’s a design element that inspired the sidebar on this blog)

Most importantly, Joblo is not just a news site.  It’s about news and opinion so you aren’t just getting a headline and a press release.  You’re getting insight from obsessed film fans and honest reviews from people who love movies.

Personally, I have Joblo to thank for inspiring me to follow the latest movie news religiously but also inspiring the creation of this blog.  Joblo.com and I go way back and this was an easy choice.
