March Movie Madness
March 4th, 2011 | Posted by in Movies2011 SUMMER MOVIE PREVIEW
Each year, I look forward to March Madness. I don’t follow college basketball as much as I used to but if you’re a basketball fan, there is no greater way to spend 2 weeks then the annual NCAA Tournament.
Wall to wall coverage of the epic upsets and last second heroics is almost upon us but before that happens, we need rankings! Who will be slotted in the number 1 spots? Which teams will squeak in?
In honor of the upcoming tournament I decided to do my own version of March Madness and rank the upcoming summer movies.
My rankings will be slightly different. I’m not going to have 4 regions with rankings for each. Instead I’m splitting my picks into 2 divisions. Division 1 will feature 10 of the biggest and most anticipated films of the summer while Division 2 will be made up of the movies that didn’t quite make the cut.
Note: Movies must be released before August 31st to qualify. Also, it appears the summer movie season starts in March now as there a lot of great looking flicks coming up.
DIVISION I
THE STARTERS
#10 | Your Highness
Why you should see it: Pineapple Express was a fantastic mix of comedy and action and this looks like it raises each to new and magical heights.
#9 | X-Men: First Class
Why you should see it: The X-Men return to the big screen! You want to see more mutants, powers, battles and effects.
#8 | Cowboys & Aliens
Why you should see it: In a summer is full of sequels, you want something different. Iron Man director John Favreau looks like he’s got another fun film in store for us.
#7 | Super 8
Why you should see it: Abrams + Spielberg. E.T + Goonies. A no brainer.
#6 | Battle: Los Angeles
Why you should see it: Finally, an Alien movie comes along that looks like it’s bringing the action, characters and epic scope. (No more movies like Skyline please.)
#5 | Thor
Why you should see it: Another Marvel Superhero makes his debut. Even if you don’t know Thor it’s worth it to see how Marvel continues to build up to The Avengers.
#4 | The Hangover Part 2
Why you should see it: The wolf pack is back!
#3 | Captain America: The First Avenger
Why you should see it: This movie has one of the coolest looking villains we’ve seen in a while in Red Skull. Lets hope the rest of the movie lives up to the hype.
#2 | Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollows Part 2
Why you should see it: Harry Potter defined a generation. How could you NOT be curious as to how it all ends if you are one of the 4 people who didn’t read the books.
Note: I’m one of those 4 people so the movies are all I’ve got.
#1 | Transformers Dark of the Moon
Why you should see it: Summer movies are about action, laughs and cool moments that blow you away. You may not have loved Transformers 2 but this movie looks like it will be a blast.
DIVISION II
THE BENCH
#10 | Kung Fu Panda 2
#9 | Paul
#8 | Rango
#7 | Fast Five
#6 | Sucker Punch
#5 | Apollo 18
#4 | Scream 4
#3 | The Green Lantern
#2 | Cars 2
#1 | Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
