Last week, director Kevin Tancharoen unleashed an amazing live action short inspired by the Mortal Kombat franchise. The ambitious production was meant to be a way to sell studios on his vision for an R-rated MK film.
The result has been an internet frenzy with millions of YouTube hits and hopefully a movie deal.
While we await the fate of Mr. Tancharoen’s extreme vision, I decided that this week’s pick should be non other than the original live action movie based on the popular fighting video game.
Mortal Kombat
I was am a hardcore fan of the series. To this day, I still have fatality combos memorized from the hundreds of rounds I played growing up.
I wish I could have seen the look on my face when I learned that a live action movie was on the way. It blew me away.
I’m aware it isn’t the greatest movie in the history of the world but I’ll always remember how excited I was to see it. That’s why I love movies.
You know what DOES bug me about the Mortal Kombat movie? Who the hell was that guy Liu Kang fought first? Why not use someone else from the franchise? That was a waste. They made up for it with the Johnny Cage/Scorpion fight… Sweet.
PS: They also announced a new game last week! I’m okay with that.
