Rainy Sundays: Sneakers

Rainy Sundays Movie Picks

Too Many Secrets…

I’ve always been a gigantic nerd. Need proof?  When I first became interested in computers I used to bring books about DOS and Qbasic to my sister’s basketball games.  I used Qbasic to program little games that required players to crack codes and solve riddles.  (Oh and by players I mean myself.) The games sucked but I learned a lot about programming languages.

What got me intersted in programming and technology?  Movies like:

Sneakers

sneakers movie 1992

I may be alone in this but when I was a kid, I used to take old boxes and draw elaborate computer consoles just so I could act like a hacker and accomplish missions for top secret organizations.

I even built my own little black box.

Sneakers was one of my main inspirations for increasing my knowledge of computers.  Today, I’m pretty proficient with computers and I have Sneakers to thank for my nerdy-ness.

The movie itself is extremely entertaining and fairly advanced for it’s time.  I usually watch this movie back to back with Mission Impossible and really get my hacking fix.  Who doesn’t love a good nerd movie every now and then.

Nerdy movies like Sneakers were the basis for the first feature screenplay I ever wrote.  It was called Action and involved stealing people’s banking information using a powerful tool called Mia.  It wasn’t very original but you have to start somewhere right?

I’ve been picking movies every Sunday for months.  I’ve covered comedies, sports, cartoons, dramas and more but I haven’t hit nerdy until today.

It’s time to embrace the nerd movies out there and Sneakers is one of the greats.

I love that movie! I found it very enjoyable and got me interested in trying to write a mystery dealing with anagrams! Also, it was an ensemble full of famous actors for drama not action / adventure! Kudos for a great Rainy Sunday movie pick!

  • Much appreciated Greg! Sneakers is definitely a movie people might miss and absolutely shouldn’t.
