Wouldn't It Be Awesome If The Green Hornet Delivers?

2011 is upon us and Season of the Witch is already the film to beat for the year’s worst film.

5% on Rotten Tomatoes… Gross.

Ironically, the film’s star, Nicoloas Cage, was once attached to play the villain in The Green Hornet but apparently wanted the character to have a Jamaican accent.  What!?

Click here for more on that crazy story.

I can’t say I’m surprised at the lack of success of Cage’s most recent stinker.

It’s January.  The dumping month.

I’m sincerely frightened that the first big superhero movie of the year is being dumped as well.

The Green Hornet

The Green Hornet was always a question mark with Seth Rogen in the lead role.  Will people take him seriously?  Will people laugh when they aren’t supposed to?

I think the first trailer did a fantastic job of squashing that theory.  It’s action packed with comedic elements but the film looks stylish and cool.  I’d buy him as a superhero and I think it actually has a good balance of comedy and action.

It’s a pretty fresh take on the genre.

So why is it getting released in January?

I understand that movies get shifted and release dates change but January is notorious for studio dumps.

Season of the Witch is a perfect example of that.  Do you think the studio would cross their fingers and put it up against Transformers 3 on the July 1st weekend?  Nope.

How does 10 Million dollars and a 3rd place finish sound…

I suppose I’m just hoping that the studio has more confidence in The Green Hornet than it seems.  But chances are it will probably suck right?

It would help if there were more reviews a week ahead of it’s release.  Speaking of which…

Where are the reviews?

As of this posting, there aren’t many reviews collected on Rotten Tomatoes.

Advanced reviews please?  Nothing?  Normally by now there are tons of early reviews for big superhero films.

However…

Wouldn’t it be awesome if the film delivers?

Right now, I’m just clinging to hope that the movie will be heavy on the action and the laughs.  What more could you ask for during the always slow winter movie season?

Why must all the massive films wait for summer releases?  Maybe The Green Hornet will start a new trend?

…  I kind of doubt it but I’m hoping to catch the film as soon as possible to find the answers I seek.

I’m in the mood for a comic book movie.

It’s January.

Green Hornet…  You’re all I’ve got!
