Yeah… But It’s Pixar!
October 24th, 2010 | Posted by in MoviesI recently caught the new trailer for Cars 2, the upcoming spy (spy?) sequel from Pixar.
I’d have to say Cars wasn’t the greatest film Pixar has produced but it’s Pixar right?
I saw the trailer on YouTube and most of the comments were somewhat negative. I say somewhat because no one really hates anything they have done thus far. People say things like:
“It’s probably my least favorite Pixar movie.”
Essentially, everyone seems to be asking whether or not Cars needed a follow up at all.
The sentiment seems to fit as they are taking the franchise in a completely different direction.
Will people still love it? What about the die hard fans of the first film?
Eventually someone posted this comment:
“Yeah… But it’s Pixar!”
I couldn’t agree more. They have such an amazing reputation now that people are willing to trust them no matter what they do.
I’ll admit that I didn’t really love the first film. Furthermore, I’m a little confused at how the spy element fits into this new project…
But… It’s Pixar!
I’ll still be there to see where they will take us next.
In the end, if it works it works. I’ll let the movie do the talking.
It says a lot for a studio to command such a high level of respect.
I think they’ve earned every single once of it.

Must admit to liking Cars more than most people. But I’m wary of Pixar’s apparent trend of getting into more and more sequels. Even if they’re all good, sequel after sequel is not why we love Pixar. We love the fresh new characters and the never-before-seen scenarios. On my own blog I joked about the place this will eventually lead, with such features as Rata-2-ee. Let’s hope I’m wrong.
Well said! I agree that we love pixar because of their originality. I think they have to find a balance between creating new characters we love and revisiting the ones we already loved.
PS: Rata-2-ee… Not bad.
