Appreciate the comment! I think it's different for every writer out there which is why I love hearing from different people and how they find time to write. I find hearing from others always puts things into perspective with my own challenges.

I kind of approach my writing the same way you do. I'll wake up and section off a chunk of time dedicated to writing. (Permission really was the perfect word choice on your part) Whether it is for this blog or for the latest screenplay I'm working on. I find those are the best days because I can then go out and be a human being without feeling guilty about not writing.

It's always going to be a tug of war but that's the point I suppose. It wouldn't be hard if we didn't love to write!

All the best!

Annie,

Thanks very much for the comment. I'm still trying to find a good balance (it'll always be that way) and it's really great to hear from fellow writers with similar situations. Sometimes it seems easier to just stop writing and catch up on other things. But we both know that's not an option right?

A struggle indeed, sir!

I think I might have the opposite problem--lots of time to write and no job! It's a kicker. Though I get a lot done writing-wise, I have to manage to partition the piece of my mind that is in constant financial worry. But if I manage it then I free entire blocks of time in which I have 'permission' to write from that voice inside (muse? neglected inner child?). Something you might try!

It involves a bit of talking to yourself, so its best done alone so you don't look too crazy. But you just make a deal. Do ___ later in exchange for complete cooperation now! But that's just what I do, so it might not work for other people. Actually, I'd consider it a miracle if anything I did worked for other people.

Back to my writing station (which, with the advent of the laptop...is anywhere I choose! Except underwater. for now).

really great post. much needed.

i am going back to my one sentence strategy as well: just write as it comes. one sentence, one paragraph, one word even. because what i have completed came together from a mosaic of unfinished sentences that had been collected over a course of years.

really appreciated this honest piece.
