All Time Worst: Movie Character You Wouldn't Want To Be Friends With

I’ve already covered the All Time Best movie character you want want to be friends with.

Read the article here.

It’s time to look at the other side of the coin.

Who is the one character you wouldn’t want to be friends with?

My pick was tricky but I settled on one that I feel would pretty much ruin my entire life.

The All Time Worst Movie Friend:

Tyler Durden

All Time Worst: Movie Character You Wouldn't Want To Be Friends With Tyler Durden

Stay with me for a moment.

I’m well aware that he is also one of the coolest movies characters of all time.

Fight Club is one of my favorites but lets look at it realistically…

Would you really want Tyler to be your friend?

Personally, I’d be terrified if Tyler was my friend because he doesn’t exist!  Lets face it, there is no way people will take you seriously if you spend your time punching the crap out of yourself…

I don’t want to start seeing people!  Especially people that convince me to do terrible and violent things.

No thanks Tyler…  I’m much happier buying my soap at the store.

PS: Where do you stand?  Which movie character would you avoid?

PS #2: He is pretty cool though…

All Time Worst Movie Theme To Get Stuck In Your Head

I got a song stuck in my head the other day.

It was the Dewey theme from the Scream movies.

Dewey Scream Theme

You know the one:

don DON don DON…  ting ting ting ting ting ting don DON don DON…

I may as well just show it to you.  The song is actually the theme from Broken Arrow by Hans Zimmer.

Note: There’s your fun fact of the day.

Here it is:

I’m not saying I dislike the song. I’m just saying it was stuck in my head for the entire day and lets face it, any song will grow old eventually.

That’s how I feel.

I’m thankful it’s gone.  Hopefully it doesn’t get stuck in your head now.

The Athletic Nerd Independent Filmmaking Television Technology

The Athletic Nerd turns 1 in less than a month!

I’ve been busy planning some new content for that week but for now, I thought I’d look back at an action packed first year.

This blog originally began as ‘After Then & Before Now’.  A blog about my production company 17 West Productions.  It wasn’t long before I realized I had much more to say and the site evolved to become The Athletic Nerd.  A movies, screenwriting and independent film blog.

Slowly, the site established an identity with various regular features and content.

Features like:

Most recently, the site introduced Movies That Changed Everything.  A series devoted to films that inspired my filmmaking aspirations.

Over the course of the last year, I’ve also spent a great deal of time enhancing each of the categories I write about.  You’ll find a ton of posts in topics like:

Recently, I added an Interviews section with several planned in the coming months.

More independent film.  More movies.

I’m addicted to the entire process and it’s honestly been a blast to write about.

In addition to all of that, The Athletic Nerd still remains focused on 17 West’s films and the filmmaking process.  On this site, you can find out all about our films and upcoming projects.

  1. Playing Through
  2. The Climb
  3. Strings

Not to mention Reviews, Technology and much much more.  If you’re an aspiring filmmaker or a film fan then hopefully The Athletic Nerd has something for you.

It’s definitely been a productive year and I’m looking forward to evolving this blog even further in the future.

Basically, I’ve got big plans for this site that include continually updating with new and original content daily.

In the coming months, I’m going to be shifting my focus towards screenwriting in order to finish up some projects and prepare for some ambitious scripts I want to tackle next.  I’m also editing our latest short film, The Climb in addition to several new features and content for this blog.

It’s going to be a busy year.

Have any ideas for posts?  Want to contribute to The Athletic Nerd? Toss me an email: jason@17west.ca

So dear reader, explore and let me know what you like (and dislike) about the site.  I’m always up for suggestions and look forward to making this a better site.

All Time Worst Movie Moments

Movie henchmen are usually meant to crumble under the weight of the heroes they oppose.

Some of these henchmen can steal the show with humor or superior fighting skills.  (Sometimes both)

Take Tatsu from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for example.

Not every henchman delivers though.  Some are annoying while others have zero excuse to exist at all.

Today, I’d like to honor the all time worst movie henchman:

Jarko Grimwood

All Time Worst Movie Moments

Don’t recognize the name?  Jarko is the idiot played by Triple H in Blade: Trinity.  What a useless and terribly written character.

Eliminate him from the movie…  Erase all memory of him…

Are you missing anything besides a cameo from a popular wrestler?

I happen to love the Blade franchise but the third movie felt so rushed and forced.  It was disappointing.  The first two were pretty solid action flicks and I had high hopes for the third.

Thanks to henchmen like Triple H, it fell flat.

The vampire dog was cool I suppose.

PS: I didn’t know Triple H’s real name was Paul.  I thought it was Hunter.  Shows what I know.

All Time Worst Movie Moments

I wanted the first All Time Worst post to represent something historic.  I want write about moments in film that continually make me cringe and roll my eyes.

After much deliberation, I decided to go with a sound effect that has annoyed me for decades!

Stop me if you’ve heard this before:

The Wilhelm Scream

The familiar sound effect has apparently snuck into over 130 films.  If you’re like me and you’re a fan of movies you’ve no doubt heard it enough to recognize it.

I love stories like this but what started as a sound editor’s inside joke has become the biggest distraction I’ve ever known.  I could be glued to the screen completely gripped in a story and the Wilhelm scream will arrive and ruin everything.

I almost wish I didn’t know the story behind it so I could return to the days when I was oblivious and watched movies in peace.

However, I do have enormous respect for these little inside jokes.  Except I’m not a sound editor so it doesn’t apply to me.

Stupid Wilhelm scream.

For those of you who haven’t heard the story of how this little sound effect became legendary, check out the video below.
