Nearly every week since this blog launched, I’ve posted a lazy day movie pick.
The types of movies you love to watch on rainy Sunday afternoons. These types of lists differ depending on who you ask but one thing is definitely certain.
Everyone loves a good movie on a lazy day.
So, I decided to countdown the top 10 Rainy Sundays posts with Number 1 being the most visited!
Check them out and don’t hesitate to send in a pick of your own to jason@17west.ca.
So why not follow it up with an equally bad ass sequel?
Who doesn’t love a good action film, a gangster story or an unrelenting epic? I can go on for hours about how much I love watching movies like these.
Here are 10 MORE bad ass movies!
A Bronx Tale
I find this movie is lesser known than some of the big Scorsese pictures but as far as gangster movies go, it’s one of the best.
Usual Suspects
If there is a movie that I regretted not including on the first list it’s The Usual Suspects. It’s an incredible story with an ambitious twist that will leave you stunned.
Sin City
This is a FUN movie to watch. Plain and simple. So over the top you can’t help but smile at the bad-assery. Not to mention it’s got one of the coolest looks of any film on this list.
Kill Bill
Quentin Tarantino shares the spotlight with Martin Scorsese as the most bad ass directors on the planet. Kill Bill is an amazingly original and entertaining revenge story with tons of B.A moments.
Casino Royale
Some may be surprised that I included a Bond film but I honestly LOVE this movie. I think it’s the best James Bond I’ve ever seen. The first chase alone makes it impossible to leave off this list.
Fight Club
Ah Fight Club. The ultimate guy movie. Such a messed up story. This is another film I wished I had room for on the first list.
Gladiator
What really needs to be said here? Gladiator is a perfect movie.
The Departed
I’m so happy that Martin Scorsese finally got his Oscar.
Casino
Anyone else shocked that I’m mentioning Martin Scorsese again?
A History Of Violence
This movie came out of no where and kicked my ass. I was blown away. I still am. I’ve gotta watch this movie again.
I thought about returning to Christmas themed movies but the release of the new Robin Hood trailer got me thinking about a different type of film this week.
I wasn’t a big fan of the Robin Hood trailer but the idea of Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe collaborating again is enough to keep me interested. The reason is because when you think of those two titans, you think of Gladiator.
“Are you not entertained!”
I’m always going to regret missing this film in theaters. It’s one of my favorite action movies of all time for many obvious reasons but also because the story is just too good. The best action movies out there have insane amounts of eye candy and those scenes are backed up with emotion and characters we care about. Maximus is now considered (by me) to be one of the greats in terms of heroic characters.
What I loved about the movie is how incredible the writing was. Here’s a movie that opens with lines like:
“What we do in life, echoes in eternity”
Brilliant.
There are certain scenarios where a line like that wouldn’t work yet on the edge of a giant battle sequence, it sends chills down your spine. The familiar phrase “Shadows and dust” is now a toast amongst my friends before we drink shots that are literally called Gladiators. (Note: Orange juice, 7up and Ameretto. Delicious)
I loved this movie so much that come Oscar time, I actually felt proud when it won the Best Picture award. Like one of my friends finally made it big. The filmmakers did such an amazing job bringing the world of Gladiators to the big screen. I’m still shocked when I talk to someone who hasn’t seen it. (For the record, if you haven’t seen it yet you need to get on it immediately.)
The idea behind Rainy Sundays is to go back and remember the movies that stick with us forever. Gladiator has so many amazing action scenes and a script that continues to amaze me every time I see it portrayed on the screen. It’s time to head to my top shelf and turn on my DVD player.
PS: How good was the music in that movie? Amazing.
