The Rundown Ep. 33 | Movie Headlines | Weekly Movie News Recap

Superman May Actually Use His Powers?

The last Superman movie felt like a waste.  Obviously we got several moments where he ‘saved the day’ but it really seemed like he was being held back.  Will Zack Snyder’s reboot unleash the Man of Steel?  This first official image is a step in the right direction.

Catwoman Looks Out Of Place

While the first look at Superman is encouraging, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises looks out of place.  Maybe it’s the fact that she is riding the Bat Pod but those goggles are way to big for her face.  I’m starting to secretly hope that it’s a minor role but I trust Christopher Nolan and I’m more than happy to admit I’m wrong if she fits in…

Lucasfilm Without Temples Or Lightsabers?

Red Tails looks like a fantastic… tale.  More than that the aerial battles are spectacular.  It’s a far cry from a galaxy far far away but I’ll take it.

Invisible Lightning Ball Aliens!

The trailer for The Darkest Hour has arrived and while I’m skeptical of the film overall, I can’t deny the effects look great.  The way those human beings disintegrate into dust is pretty sweet.

‘Grave Encounters’ Some Blair Witch Activity

Every so often, a movie comes along that seems to only be capitalizing on the latest crazy.  In this case, found footage ghost stories.  However, there are moments in this trailer that may convince you to allow another player in the game.  I’m certainly looking forward to Grave Encounters.

-Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

-Francis Ford Coppola is back with a strange entry called ‘Twixt’

-Another ‘Apes’ visual effects breakdown from Weta

The Rundown Ep. 10

The Athletic Nerd Movie Blog: The Rundown Movie Headlines

The Wolfpack Is Back!

You really couldn’t have asked for a better teaser trailer for The Hangover Part 2. I’m curious to see how the film will differentiate itself from the hilarious original.  Then again, I loved the original so I’m in for more of the same if that’s what the team has in store for us.

Does Cars 2 Look Good?

Cars isn’t on the favorite of a lot of Pixar fans but it was okay.  Does it deserve a sequel?  Like it or not, I’ll still give it a shot simply BECAUSE it’s Pixar.

I’m Prepared For Sucker Punch

How could you not be a little curious as to what the hell this mess is?  Obviously there is a specific type of audience in mind and since I think it looks cool I’m probably part of that target demographic.  What do you think?

Zak Snyder + Action + Slow Motion = Entertainment.

There are certain types of movies that I want to see but just don’t quite make it to Theater status.  They are classified as ‘wait for video’ and that doesn’t mean they are terrible movies by any means.  (The Adjustment Bureau is another example of a movie I want to see but I’m in no hurry.)

Superman Casting

News broke earlier that Kevin Costner was being eyed for a role (Probably Jonathan Kent) in the new Superman movie.  The newest rumor features Aragorn himself Viggo Mortenson as a ‘person of interest’ to play the villainous General Zod.  Nice.

I actually hope both of these rumors are true.  I never bought Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor and lets face it, Viggo would be an awesome villain.  Fingers crossed.

Birds vs Monkeys in Rio!

I wasn’t totally interested in Rio until I saw all the monkeys fighting the birds.  Now I’m thinking this animated flick may not be that bad.

From Beiber To G.I Joe 2?

Jon Chu, director of Never Say Never, (The ‘actually not bad’ Justin Bieber movie) has been chosen to direct the next G.I Joe movie…  I’ve gotta say, given his recent statements I’m totally cool with that.  I actually liked the first G.I Joe movie.  It had it’s moments but it sounds like we are in for something special in the follow up.  Hope so.

The Rundown Ep. 7

February 5th, 2011 | Posted by jasonmckinnon in Movies | The Rundown - (0 Comments)

The Athletic Nerd Movie Blog: The Rundown Movie Headlines

Well, I’m all moved in and finally settling into a new routine.  It’s strange being away from the web for nearly a week.  There’s a ton I missed and since this week was fairly slow for major news and such, I thought I’d toss out a little bit of everything from the last few weeks in this edition.

Next week is going to be absolutely massive with tons of Superbowl trailers and announcements on the way.  I can’t wait!

Zak Snyder found his Superman!

I’m loving where this franchise is headed.  Zak Snyder’s amazing visual style mixed with Christopher Nolan’s golden touch has entertaining written all over it.

Word came this week that Lois Lane may or may not be the central love interest in the story.  I’m not sure if that will fly (ahem) or not but I’m looking forward to some concrete story details.

THE LINK: More on casting the female lead in Superman (Collider)

Regardless, the announcement of Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel seems awesome to me!

Bill Murray vs Ghostbusters 3

I’m not a huge fan of the Ghostbusters movies but I still sympathize with the hardcore fans out there.  How frustrating it must be to have a script in place with everyone returning except Venkman.

Apparently, Mr. Murray has the script with everyone anxiously awaiting his approval.

But the weeks have turned into months and he still hasn’t read a word?

Someone needs to interview that guy and get to the bottom of this.  If he’s not into it, wouldn’t it be easier to just say no?  Everyone is waiting!

Captain America Poster

I wasn’t completely sold on Chris Evans as Captain America until I saw this image.  Avenge!

Is there anything about this poster that makes you want to see it?  This…  Looks…  Awful!

The Sunset Limited Trailer

I love movies that take place in one location.  I love Tommy Lee Jones and I love Samuel L. Jackson.  I love movies based on plays.  I love this trailer too.

Don’t ask.  Just watch.

Robots.  Lots of Robots

Holy crap.  What is this!?  It’s either the dumbest action movie ever made or the awesomest!  I’m actually looking forward to finding out which one it is.

Movie Trailer Streaks

January 31st, 2011 | Posted by jasonmckinnon in Movies - (0 Comments)

Movie Trailer Streaks | Movie Blog

Movie lovers can sometimes find it extremely difficult to decide which movie to watch.  Perhaps it’s just me…  Is it?

I spend a lot of time in front of my collection wondering which film will be next.  Sometimes, you don’t get many opportunities to catch a flick so it has to be a perfect pick.

One way I solve the problem is Movie Trailer Streaks.

What is a Movie Trailer Streak?

Have you ever settled in to watch a movie and one of the trailers on the disc inspires you to watch that movie next?

A few days later you put in that DVD and another trailer jumps out at you.

It doesn’t always work but I tend to watch the trailers on every disc just in case something inspires me.  I can never remember what trailers are included on a disc so it’s a nice random way for fate to provide the suggestions.

These streaks can keep you going for a long time.

Currently, I’m on a pretty fantastic streak and haven’t spent a second in front of my collection hoping something will stick out.

THE Q: What’s your favorite movie trailer of all time?

The Downside?

Some streaks come to a crashing halt when you see a trailer for a movie you have no access to.

It can be an advantage if it’s something you want to add to your collection though.

I love watching movies.  I love putting on DVD’s before bed every night.  I love having a new movie to look forward to.  Something I’ve never seen before.  I love revisiting my old favorites and the classics.

I love trailers too.
