First of all, what kind of an idiot admits to doubting his Captain that quickly! Especially when your Captain is Hook! You have to lie if you doubt your captain. Honesty means nothing to the steel handed stingray. Also, why bother showing your face on that ship in the first place? You know he’s going to find out by asking you a simple question. People who get the Boo Box sentence make me sad…
So here are some tips on how to survive The Boo Box.
Don’t doubt your Captain!
Once in the boo box, calm down and locate the scorpions. Try not to make too many sudden movements. However, it’s important to keep yelling slightly so they don’t think you’ve read this post and have a foolproof survival method.
Once you’ve located the scorpions KILL THEM! They are just scorpions! Work quickly because you only have a limited amount of time before people get suspicious.
Once they are dead, kick the screaming into high gear. You should be in pain. Really sell it.
Make sure to pinch yourself really hard so there are bite marks.
Once they open the box you’re on your own. These tips only help you escape death by scorpions. Which is why #7 is the most important tip…
Don’t doubt your Captain!
This poor pirate didn’t have a chance but he didn’t even put up a fight. He just broke down and cried. It’s unfortunate… I’m still terrified of the boo box.
… Do you think The Boo Box is meant to kill someone or simply punish them?
Christopher Nolan is by far my favorite director and recently, this little video was released revealing his thoughts on Star Wars.
After I found that video, I decided to look into some more of my favorite directors.
Did you know R2D2 is in J.J Abrams’ Star Trek?
Just because, here is an in depth interview with J.J included some thoughts on the similarities between Star Trek and Star Wars. (Courtesy of Hero Complex)
Before Christopher Nolan took over, M. Night Shyamalan was my favorite director. He may not be the champ anymore but I still adore Signs. However, there are some comparisons between Shyamalan and George Lucas.
Of course I’m missing a ton of directors like Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Peter Jackson, Francis Ford Coppola and more that I adore but how could I leave out Lucas’ pal Steven Spielberg? Did you know he wept at a screening of Episode 3?
I could probably spend days looking up interesting references to Star Wars. Have any hidden gems?
I’ve decided to dedicate this special 25th edition of The Rundown to J.J Abrams and continued coverage of the amazing Super 8.
J.J Abrams has yet to be involved in a project that I didn’t absolutely adore. The man is one of the most gifted pure storytellers on the planet. He’s been handed the keys to several huge franchises like Mission: Impossible and Star Trek and he exceeded expectations every time.
But it’s his original projects that make him great. He has given us amazing feature films like Cloverfield and unbelievable television projects like Lost, Fringe and Alias.
I remember thinking that the film could crack my top 10 of all time about 30 minutes into the film. There was no monster yet. There was only a group of kids dealing with very real and very relatable issues.
In an interview over at /Film, Peter Scirreta made a comment that was spot on:
“Most action movies these days you don’t care much about the characters. This movie, I could have seen a whole movie in an alternative reality where the train never crashes and it’s just a Stand By Me-style drama following the kids and I would have still loved it.”
J.J Abrams’ response was fascinating to me:
“I love that you said that. Thank you so much for that.”
His intention was to make a movie that could stand on it’s own without the monster becoming a crutch as the story moved along. Super 8 is more about the kids than the monster yet it’s still packed with action and thrills.
The full interview is a great read with J.J commenting on everything from working with Spielberg, to Lost’s infamous smoke monster.
A lot of the talk surrounding Super 8 was the power house team up of Spielberg and Abrams and their quest to bring back the magic of films like E.T. They definitely succeeded.
Many young filmmakers started out much like the characters in this story. Much like Abrams and Spielberg. I grew up making movies myself.
The story behind Super 8 is just as intriguing as the movie itself. Abrams describes how the story came to be in an interview posted on Flicks and Bits.
“Super 8 came out of two separate ideas. One was an idea of doing a film about kids making super 8 movies in the late 70’s, early 80’s. And the other one was an idea of a monster movie that I’d had. One was a group of characters I had loved, but without a story that I thought would compel people to go and see it. And the other was a compelling premise but with no original characters. So I kind of combined the two and found that they serviced each other in a cool way.”
From a screenwriting perspective, the idea of combining two completely separate ideas is both inspiring and terrifying. You’ll never know what happen if you take the best elements of two ideas and combine them.
#2 MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL
Feature Film | Producer
I can’t wait to see what Brad Bird does with the Mission: Impossible series. Especially with Abrams involved after the stellar third installment he directed.
#1 STAR TREK 2
Feature Film | Producer/Director
Still waiting on official word that this movie is happening but I loved the first and I’ve never been a Star Trek guy.
We live in a world where movies are constantly spoiled in trailers. Plot points are given away and sometimes, entire mysteries are revealed before you get a chance to experience them for yourself.
Leading up to a major film release, there are literally thousands of blog posts and features that speculate on every single detail. This is especially true when it comes to movies based on existing properties like comic books.
However, every once in while a movie like Super 8 comes along. A true original.
J.J Abrams and Steven Spielberg set out to recapture the magic of film’s like E.T. That’s no east task in a world where the curtains are pulled back so easily. But it’s THAT magic that audiences will never stop craving. Magic that only works if it’s kept a secret.
Make no mistake, Super 8 has a secret and I wanted to experience it for myself.
Thankfully, the trailers and clips for this movie really don’t give anything away. The filmmakers behind Super 8 built their marketing campaign on a simple promise. A promise to deliver something wonderful and unique. They asked audiences for their trust. These days, it’s a risk but I’m happy to tell you that they kept their word.
SUPER 8 IS EVERY BIT AS MAGICAL
AS THE MOVIES YOU LOVED AS A KID.
Remember the summer days when you grabbed your bike and spent long afternoons on adventures with your friends? It was all about our imaginations then and Super 8 will reminded me of those inspiring days. But more than that, Super 8 reminded me that it never has to end.
I can’t believe I’m saying this as I’m only 28 but Super 8 made me feel young again.
J.J Abrams didn’t just make a monster movie. He created a touching story about friendship, family and loss. A story about a group of kids who witness something remarkable while making a movie of their own.
I grew up making movies. We spent hours in the bush with toy guns throwing ourselves off of dirt hills and laughing every step of the way. We were heroes and villains. We ran from monsters and confronted evil. Every shot was inspiring. Every punch that looked ‘real’ was an incredible rush.
I learned to love filmmaking as a kid. Super 8 was made for me.
OPERATION: AVOID SPOILERS AT ALL COST
It wasn’t easy for me to see Super 8. The only show that didn’t interfere with my shift was at 10:30 AM and the theater was far away.
But I had to see it on opening day! I couldn’t bare to have the movie spoiled over the weekend. So I made the decision, woke up early and traveled over an hour to see it. It took two buses and a subway but it was worth every second. Super 8 is an amazing movie full of moments I’ll remember long after today. It took a lot of effort to see it spoiler free and so my gift to you is a spoiler free review.
Go and see Super 8 and discover the secrets for yourself.
It’s an experience the kid inside you will thank you for. I know I’m still smiling.
J.J ABRAMS & STEVEN SPIELBERG
BRING BACK MEMORIES WITH SUPER 8!
When these two film titans got together to recapture the spirit of movies like E.T, I was thrilled. It’s been a while since a movie came along and delivered a little nostalgia for people of my generation. The film fans who were children when Goonies was released. Hopefully this starts a trend for a new generation of amazing and magical movies.
